Greetings from Slade to RMN Radio : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGagB9J2NUk 22-Pistepirkko album and book 22-Pistepirkko originally from Utajarvi, northern Finland releases a new album Drops & Kicks and a book 22-Pistepirkko in the spring of 2005. Keranen brothers Asko and Hannu P-K formed the group in 1981. 22-Pistepirkko style has been mostly close to alternative and garage rock. Best known hit song has been Birdy. The book describes band`s voyage to today`s music industry`s manners. In the early days Pistepirkkos were forced to call to the relatives living in Helsinki to be able to hear a short clip from Slade`s album. P-K 25 years later in YleQ radio program 5.2.2005: Move Over - Slade. This hit you hard? PKK: Yes, really hard. I remember, when I first heard it... We did play this a lot with open mouth - how can something sound this way! Then I became a hard Slade fan. I cut a Dave Hill haircut... Then I managed to see them at Kuusrock 1982. Dave Hill looked quite legendary... Stage was full of London City amplifiers. When they started to play I started to laugh, oh this is absolutely sicking good. It was as good as I had imagined. It was one of those kind of moments, when you see something really good, it just makes you laughing... It was magnificient, it was good. Pic from the book, 22-Pistepirkko at the Utajarvi railway station in 1995 In musical terms, I had a peculiar summer: centred around four long interviews with the ex-members of Slade, the raw material for a feature in Mojo magazine. One-time guitarist and glam titan Dave Hill was like a one-man sub-plot in Saxondale; bassist and co-songwriter Jim Lea had required 20 years of therapy to get over the compromises involved in vast success but seemed to now be OK; and drummer Don Powell had moved to Denmark. Noddy Holder, meanwhile, met me at a London hotel and gave me three enlightening hours, which peaked with his explanation of their career-defining 1973 hit Merry Xmas Everybody. It was no work of yuletide hackery, he insisted; rather, it was intended to raise the country’s spirits in the midst of industrial meltdown, power outages and Ted Heath. A week later, I pulled up at a set of Hereford traffic lights with Slade’s Greatest Hits on the car stereo, which duly reached the song whose chronic familiarity had long since bred indifference . But not this time: suddenly, I was about six years old, the 1970s were in full grim effect, and - even though it was mid-August - it was Christmas. “Look to the future now, it’s only just begun,” advised Noddy. And, in instinctive tribute to Slade’s shining genius, I actually - no, really - shed a tear. @John Harris : http://www.chickyog.net/2006/12/24/winterval-calendar-day-24/ 27th November 2007 TAKE A PRAY for Quiet Riot Singer Kevin DuBrow Quiet Riot Singer Kevin DuBrow Found Dead In His Las Vegas Home Rocker, 52, died of unknown causes. Credited with helping to launch the 1980s glam-metal scene, Quiet Riot are perhaps best known for their cover of Slade's "Cum on Feel the Noize," which appeared on 1983's Metal Health and eventually peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album is widely considered the first by a metal band to reach the chart's #1 position.
