The International SLADE Mailinglist : http://mailinglist.stroemoe.com/ Administrator Lars Ove Stroemoe from Norway SLADE at Vift 2th July 2004 copyright@ Stig Eriksen Gig : Bodø Rock Cafe, Bodø - Norway. Date : 14th. of february 2003. Audience : 400
SLADE delivered their old classic songs hard andloud. The audience at the Rock Cafe got turned on from the start of the gig! SLADE opened the ballet at the Rock Cafe with the well-known hit "Cum On Feel The Noize". Slade played actually so hard and loud the assembly room could allow, and no one could accuse DAVE HILL, DON POWELLand their younger mates for not having energy and power! Maybe to loud, OK, but fun and with a pretty high party-factor!
The gig-repertory had all the big hits from the 70's and 80's and the quartet did all they could to do classics like "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and "Get Down And Get With It" so great as possible! The Ballades "Everyday" and "Far Far Away" started like oasis' of calm tones - before they also started to be loud and noizy. Slade managed this in a good way, but theynever performed this the same way like the line-up included Noddy Holder did. Anyway, the lead-singer, STEVE WHALLEY, presented the material on a high level and he fixed the role as the "frontman" great as well! To hear the old material from the "old days" showed that not all of the oldies had managed the sign of the time and some of the new tunes was just a litle bit more than average - but effective pub-rock. With over 30 years in the line of the music business, DAVE HILL have learned that the rock'n roll also is more than just the music. It's also about entertainment and contact with the audience. In this "departement", the band made a high score! The Slade-boss presented himself as a active man on stage with glimt in his eyes. He had a fancy hat and glittering costume on, and he ran arround on the stage like a glamrock-devil! He climbed on boxes on the egde of the stage and tried to get the audience to clap, jump and sing along. He did this with a great authority. The audience of 400 had a great time! The sing-along parts showed also that a lot of the audience in Bodx Rock Cafe, both young and old, surprisingly knew the lyrics of the old Slade-songs. In other words: - DAVE HILL and comapany could make a note of a victory for their simple and the arch british working-class rock'n roll.
