THE BEST LIVE BAND EVER
SLADE - JUST A LITTLE BIT
The next part in the SIE video archive sees Slade tackle Magic Sam's standard 'I Just Want A Little Bit' from his 1968 LP 'Black Magic'.
This is a SIE composite edit without Dave Hill's posturing at the end spoiling the feel of the track.

Video Description
In 1971 Chas Chandler suggested that the next single for the band would be a studio version of their live set finisher, Get Down With It. Having heard Little Richards 1966 version of this Bobby Marchan song, the band had used it to finish their show with and after a string of singles that did nothing, GDWI bludgeoned it's way into the national and European charts. Union Square Music is currently engaged with the remastering and reissue of the bands back catalogue, where GDWI can be found in live and studio versions. http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/slade/links/index.html

Kick Arse version of the Ten Years After anthem 'Hear Me Calling', except it was not an anthem until Slade got a hold of it and used it as their opening number for many years. This is an outstanding track that is available on the beat club 40th anniversary edition dvd. It is a classic track from a class band, tight as a dwarf's foreskin Slade were peerless live, as you can hear when you nip out and buy the Union Square Music collection of remastered and reissued Slade CD's........ http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/slade/links/index.html

Video Description
1981 saw the band riding a new wave of heavy metal induced euphoria following their show stealing slot at the 1980 Reading festival, where they wiped, and I mean wiped the floor with every other band that was there. They played a short tour of Germany with Reading headliners Whitesnake, during which the band came up with 'Daughters'which is almost 'Fool For Your Lovin'. From the Slade In England video archive comes the promotional video which has never been broadcast in full and is rarely seen in its entirety...enjoy. Union Square Music is currently engaged with the remastering and reissue of the bands back catalogue, where Lock Up Your Daughters can be found in both live and studio versions. http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/slade/links/index.html

The opening chords of this Slade anthem have still to be bettered, an absolute Slade classic. US hair band Quiet Riot scored a major US hit with their version of the track, but the short arsed lead 'singer'....don't know his name, the one with the wig..has since distanced himself from the band and people that gave him his 15 minutes of fame. Union Square Music are remastering and rereleasing the complete Slade back catalogue and as there are so many crap versions of namby pamby bedwetters Quiet Riots version on youtube, I decided it was time that the real thing made a guest appearance.

I thought it was time that some of the old footage was given a new lease of life, it makes sense expecially with the bands complete back catalogue being remastered and reissued by Union Square Music. This footage was filmed during the afternoon sound check at the Rainbow theatre, the audio is from somewhere else! Video Description
This is the earliest known footage to exist of the band, one of two tracks performed on the Alane Price show in November of 1969. It is a pity that neither track was thought worthy enough to feature on the officially sanctioned dvd release of 2005. This edit is taken from the 'Through the years SIE dvd and features an intro by Noel Gallagher, who has always been a fan of the band and says so every time he is asked. Union Square Music have released This Beatles cover on the 'Beginnings/Play It Loud' reissued CD. http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/slade/links/index.html

Video Description - WILD WINDS ARE BLOWING
This is the earliest known footage to exist of the band, one of two tracks performed on the Alane Price show in November of 1969. It is a pity that neither track was thought worthy enough to feature on the officially sanctioned dvd release of 2005, despite the footage being available. Wwab was penned by Bob Winsley and Jack Saker and released as a doomed single, it did give the band some tv exposure and this footage is the best that I have managed to find of the track, snippets of crystal clear footage have been used before, most notably on the 'It's Slade' BBC documentary...but not enough yet to attempt a 'new' video. So for what its worth..... Union Square Music have released This on the 'Beginnings/Play It Loud' reissued CD. http://www.unionsquaremusic.co.uk/slade/links/index.html

Video Description - LOOK WOT U DUN
Slade In England once again brings you from the archives a clip of the band miming to LWUD on a French TV show entitled 'Entente Cordial - Special England' As most things French it was a strange concept and told the story of England using Shakesperean quotes and music of the day, in this show Slade were joined by Gilbert O Sullivan and someone called 'Sheila' This footage is available, and has been since 1972 from the PARIS : OFFICE NAT. DE RADIODIFFUSION ET TELEVIS. FR (ORTF) and is brought to you here on youtube earlier than anticipated due to unscrupulous abba fan types. Video Description - BURNING IN THE HEAT OF LOVE
It's 1977 and Slade are nowhere, abandoned by the masses and music press alike,1977 was as Lea describes 'year zero' for the band. Instead of giving it all up the band went back on the road and slogged their guts out around the small clubs to a dwindling but solid hard core fan base that numbered around 300 souls in the UK. This clip of film is from German TV show Szene and is brought to you by Slade In England. The track features on the official Slade anthology 4 cd gift set available from all good record stores now.
Yawn.........

Video Description - WHEELS AIN'T COMING DOWN
Slade In England is once again able to smash down convention and from the fab and groovy all singing all dancing Slade In England archives comes this previously unbroadcast promotional video for WACD. Lack of sales meant that it was never shown on TV, made a one off appearance at a fan convention and then was lost until last year when it appeared on the unofficial fan dvd 'One More Time/Through The Years'. It is unlikely ever to be given the official release it deserves so, all you Slade fans fed up with being spoon fed the same old same old year after year...enjoy.

Video Description - WE'LL BRING THE HOUSE DOWN
The aftermath of Reading gave Slade their first top ten hit in centuries with WBTHD, and what better way to announce yourself to the waiting world as the new standard bearers of British Heavy Metal? Moondogs Matinee of course, the brand new kids TV show that was first aired on 14/04/1981. Slade performed both the hit of the day and a 100mph version of Mama on the show, both clips are available to be used on any proper dvd and are stored at the ITN/Granada archives.....you could believe that or you could believe that it does not exist, take your pick!

Video Description - DIZZY MAMA
How many Slade fans picked up the gibbon chunder coloured slice of vinyl that was 'Ginny Ginny', and stared in disbelief at the lable? Surely there was some mistake, a misspress perhaps...could 'Dizzy Mama' really be the B side?
Indeed it was and although the A side sank without a trace, Dizzy Mama, introduced into the set in January 1980, was to become the bands opener in later tours and would remain so for a few years before being itself replaced with 'Preacher'. Dizzy Mama is a reworking of ZZ Top's 'Tush', if not a reworking it certainly pays some 'omage' to the bearded ones ditty. In this age of box sets and costly retrospectives, Slade have been criminally ill served. The repeat reissuing of greatest hits packages spiced up with a picture book or two really doesnt hit the mark. Enjoy another Slade In England special vid presentation of the band ripping through Dizzy Mama, a clarion call to arms for the masses, video footage filmed at the Kimb erley leisure centre Nottingham and the audio is from the Lochem set. Have fun...

In their recording career Slade notched up an impressive three live Lp's finishing up with 'Slade On Stage'.
Union Square Music are currently in the process of reissuing the complete Slade Catalogue including on SalvoCD201 'SLADE ALIVE!' which is a special two cd package containing all three and some bonus Reading Live tracks from the Reading EP's. Slade - Take Me Bak 'ome (1972)
From a short lived 1972 TV program called '2 G's And The Pop People'. Pretty crazy stuff. Each band member has a dancing chick dressed sort of the same as them mimicking their moves as they lip sync 'Take Me Bak 'ome'.. This is supposed to be the only known video of Slade doing this song back in their prime. (There's a colour version out there somewhere...)

SKWEEZE ME PLEEZE ME
It is fair to say that by time SMPM was released in the 1973 that the band could have released any old shit and it would have gone straight to number one such was the momentum built up by the band following a string of hits including Cum On Feel The Noize which had already smashed into the charts at the number one spot. The band could do no wrong and were booked to play two shows at Londons Earls court venue. The shows were filmed but criminally were never released. The film was never stored correctly and is now mostly dust. Some clips do exist notably in the archives of the Bert Sugarman organisation who bought three tracks in the 70's for US Tv transmission. Here is an early SIE composite video of the track overdubbed with audio taken from one shows.

MERRY XMAS EVERYBODY
There is not alot more to be said about this classic pop tune, it's insidiousness has allowed it of late to even be heard in US shopping malls at that time of the year. Here is a SIE composite video of the band, mostly from 1973's Xmas edition of Sez Lez..........the full clip of course resides in archives and should have been included on some sort of official release by now.

LEMME LOVE INTO YA
For some reason the powers that be within the Slade world chose to release 'Return To Base' in 1979 which in the dusk of punk and the dawning of the new romantics was guaranteed to sink without a trace, which it did, until hastily being renamed, rejigged and reissued as 'We'll Bring The House Down' following their Reading festival triumph in 1980. One of the tracks that managed to stay in the live set for a while was 'lemme Love Into Ya' which is presented here as rough grainy footage that has been through the effects mill to lighten it up enough for viewing.

Flame is an anoraks dream......It was Tom Conti's celluloid debut......tragic partner of Diana Dors, Alan Lake played jack Daniels......Former pin up ITV newsreader Reggie Bosanquet made a brief cameo appearance as did long time fan of the band Tommy Vance on the war time Thames fort Red Sands..........spot Ex Animals drummer and important cog in the Slade management team John Steel in the opening sequence......marvel at the slowness of the train sequences filmed at the Kent and Sussex railway museum and was Ron Harding really based on Sharon Osbournes father Don Arden? The film is available on dvd from Union Square Pictures which features an exclusive in depth interview with showman supreme Neville J, and would be complimented by the soon to be remastered soundtrack being reissued by Union Square Music.
Here is a Slade In England composite video of OK Yesterday was yesterday..........you know.....the one where they come up out of the stage like that........not like that...like that. http://www.unionsquaremusic...
BORN TO BE WILD
Those nice people at Union Square music in conjunction with Slade and Newman & Co are currently remastering and rereleasing the entire Slade back catalogue.
Slade were the BEST live band ever to come from these shores and here is a composite Slade In England video of the band ripping through Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild, a track that has been covered by every group of people ever to pick up guiters, but Slade provided the definitive version on their 1972 LP 'Slade Alive' and is available on the fab and groovy Slade Alive triple LP collection recently released and available (salvocd201)............as the erstwhile Mr Holder would say..'In your shops now folks......go out and buy it.
Slade............long may they be remembered and revered.
